Ape Installation

You can find plug and play wire extension kits from Novello on the J&P website. I used them on my handlebar swap and it made the job much easier. If you decide to solder though, space out your splices!

You will most likely need to get a new front brake line, clutch cable, and throttle/idle. Take a piece of string and measure the length of cables you will need. The HD shop can order custom lines for you from 3rd party catalogs. When I went from stock to 12″ bars, the HD shop only had the long brake line, but no clutch/throttle/idle cables – they special ordered them.

You can’t “break” the cables in the middle. The nice thing about the brake line is that you can get a one-piece, flexible line. Ditch that flexible to rigid to flexible stock brake line.

Using Nash Apes

It cost me a lot of time and some cussing. But the electrical cables are quite cheap. By now I’m sure I could do it within 3-4 hours. So, the guy at the shop might be a little faster -> ballpark figures.

The clutch cable, throttle cable and the brake line were hefty (things here are ridiculously overpriced). About USD 90 for the steel brake line (custom built by the shop), USD 40 for the throttle cable (only have one there anyway) and about USD 60 for the clutch. That’s if my memory serves me right…
